It didn’t take long for people to take notice, and Paul realized his creation’s potential. In 1987, he founded String Swing and, with the help of his family and a machinist friend, began manufacturing parts and assembling hangers in his home. Musicians raved about the hanger’s secure deep cradle design, and as the business outgrew his basement, Paul sold his farm and moved to Ontario, Wisconsin to build a machine shop and pursue his new dream.
Today, String Swing builds the strongest, safest, and most accessible instrument displays on the market – trusted to hold over 10 million guitars worldwide. Our catalog has expanded to instruments of all kinds, from strings to woodwinds and percussion. Still proudly family-owned and American-made in our Midwest facility, we continue to refine our designs, provide excellent customer service, and uphold the highest standards of quality. From our humble beginnings to today, our goal remains the same: to build convenient, dependable, and beautifully crafted instrument displays that encourage musicians to pursue their passion.

Absolutely! Our guitar holders are designed with a pivoting feature that adjusts to headstocks of all shapes, ensuring that your instrument hangs completely vertically. We recommend turning the yoke all the way into the fixture and backing it out half a turn, so it can freely pivot to accommodate your instrument’s headstock style.
Our composite material will not eat into the nitro of your guitar like most foams and rubbers do. Fender, Gibson, and Martin all use our products in their showrooms and at trade shows on both their standard and high-nitro finished guitars. However, there are some things that are out of our control that prevent us from putting an unconditional guarantee that no marking will ever occur.
- If an issue does arise with the finish, there is no definitive way for us to tell if the marks were caused by our products, or if they were from a previously used product by another manufacturer.
- Nitro finish remains partially a liquid for its lifetime. Any significant pressure on the finish for extended periods of time can result in pressure marks that look almost like a smear. This is worsened if the guitar was not given proper cure time when the finish was applied.
- If you have used guitar polish, make sure that you wipe it off before using our products. There is conflicting information on the internet as to whether polish is ever necessary. In addition, do not use any chemical cleaners on our padding material. Water is fine if needed.
- Storing your guitar in direct sunlight can cause big issues, regardless of what material is being used in resting the guitar.
Our products are still made with the safest material on the market for nitro finished guitars, and thousands of people trust their guitars to our hangers every day. If you have a nitro white Gibson or Epiphone, we recommend using one of our white yokes for these extremely color sensitive finishes. If you decide to choose our products to display your guitars, we suggest checking your guitars frequently for peace of mind and reassurance of their safety.
If you have more questions, give us a call at 1-888-455-6628 and ask for Travis. He’ll gladly discuss any nitrocellulose-related questions in further depth.
